Fall is Settling In

This last week we took advantage of the flexibility of homeschooling and went camping…we packed up Frazier, our Arabic lessons, reading, and Bible and hit the road.  We became mosquito fodder for a few days as we enjoyed the quiet of Lake Michigan.

We came home in time to start our homeschool co-op classes.  Patrice is taking gym, kite making, and games.  Sue is checking out gym, kite making, and sports info.  Caitlyn is learning about immigration and refugees, games, and photography.  I am teaching the class on immigration and refugees and helping in the games class.

Friday we headed to the library after our studies at home (they were not so thrilled with the double portion of math…but that’s the price you pay for going to the beach!)

I am enjoying the cooler temperatures as my runs get longer–my next half marathon is less than a month away.  Saturday I ran 8.5 miles.  I am happy to report I didn’t run out of stamina, I just ran out of time as we were headed to visit with friends for the evening.

Daddy got super brave and asked Caitlyn to trim his hair.  She said later, “I’ve been teasing him for so long that I would do it, but once he asked me to, I was scared!!”  She did a great job!!

We Went We Saw

Four years ago, we headed a few states over for a family wedding.  We did some camping along the way.

Turns out, I remember very little of it.

Patrice was one years old.  I don’t remember her being there at all.  Hubby tells me she was very good about camping and the wedding, but if you ask me, she wasn’t even there.

And sorry to my niece who was getting married, I don’t remember the wedding at all.  I am sure it was just lovely.  Really lovely, but you see, I was very sick with the postpartum depression and bipolar at the time.  Life at that time was really hard and so very foggy.

But time has passed and my meds are better…and my mind is allowing me to think and remember.

So this trip to a wedding was very different.  It was very nice.  We went to our nephews’ wedding and then headed to Lake Michigan to relax and even visit Chicago for a day.

Third Times a Charm for Saturday Snapshots

This was before our camping trip, but too cute to miss!

Sue with one of her cousins on our camping trip

Daddy and Caitlyn on a paddle boat ride

That blur is Caitlyn running along the beach

Sue didn’t want to swim, then she did, then she didn’t…

It was our third camping trip this summer and we FINALLY got a nice sunny trip with no rain!!!

Head on over and see more great pictures at An Ordinary Mom.

A New Campground for Try Something New Thursday

We recently tried our second camping trip as a family.  It was a little, okay a lot, wet.  But a fun time was had by all.  So, if it was our 2nd trip, how does it qualify for Try Something New Thursday, you ask?  We were at a new campground!

We didn’t want to go far from home, but wanted to be able to enjoy the out of doors, so we headed to Attica, Michigan (Yeah, I had never heard of it either).  It is near Lapeer, Michigan.

Attica Pines Campground is run by a family and is very family friendly!  It was a great experience.

There was beautiful lake/pond that the girls fished in.  They each caught one fish!

We explored two play areas.

Huge dirt and rock piles for climbing…Do you know how dirty two little girls can get with muddy piles to slide down?

We had bonfires and collected sticks for the fires.

We played tether ball, took hikes and had lots of fun.  You should check out Attica Pines Campground!  It is a great family get away!

Now share what you have tried new lately?

A Few Days Late Again for Saturday Snapshots

I am a few days late for Saturday Snapshots, but I just had to share these cuties!  I will share more of our 2nd camping adventure on Thursday.
