Our Giggles & Grimaces
A place to share the joys and challenges of our little, but growing, family. Life with three girls, ages 14, 12 and 10 years old, is a joy most of the time. But, there are challenges to every life and this is my place to share some of that.Midwifery Support

The Pumpkins are Sat Around the Porch With Care In Hopes Candy Would Soon Be There
I am returning to a link up I have not done in a while, the phone photos. I used to have to search for photos to use for these link ups, but since I got my iPhone, I’ll freely admit, I never use the point and shoot. My phone does a better job.
Last night was pumpkin carving night. This year, all of the girls were old enough to work on theirs. Daddy was definitely there and helped, but each did some solo.
I might have seen this pin on Pinterest so hubby, and girls, made it happen.
The girls were heavily supervised even where you don’t see it.
We had a lot of fun with pumpkin carving this year. Though I forgot to read them the Pumpkin Carving Gospel. We might have to do one more pumpkin tonight as part of our devotions.
How are your Halloween or Harvest time preparations coming? Are you tackling it tonight or has it been done for a while? I’d love to hear about it.
A Fit and Fab Giveaway from Worthy of the Prize Ministries
I was doing some blog hopping today to tell some bloggy friends about this award I gave them. And I found this giveaway.
As you know I have been trying various things to keep myself mentally and physically fit. I have been running and doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. I have also been doing a twitter project reading a chapter of Proverbs every day to match the date. I was wondering if there are other ways to blend my physical health with my spiritual health. Worthy of the Prize Ministries has figured it out!
See what they are giving away here and check out their site here.

A Merciful Link
I have previously talked about this ministry that I have fallen in love with. They have been doing lots of creative fundraising to get the home funded. On the third of the month they ask people consider a donation of just $3. They have an Etsy shop.
Tomorrow they are doing an on-line silent auction. You can preview some of the items here.
Please check it out. You won’t be sorry.

Are We Pumpkins Yet?
Recently I started telling Caitlyn that she would turn into a pumpkin after bedtime. Now she asks me, “are we pumpkins yet?” And we count the minutes until they become or are pumpkins.
This fall we had a great day of pumpkin fun at the Pahls Pumpkin Patch, If you have never been, you should go next year. If you have been, you should go again!
Here is some of the fun we had!

Trying Something New
I did some searching today and found some cute Thanksgiving Day crafts and printables for the letter T. So Tuesday we will Try Something New. We’re going to make turkeys. I got construction paper, glue sticks and a couple cute templates.
I’ve also been trying some new sewing patterns. I made two skirts, a stethescope cover and a onesie dress this last week. I finally figured out what I have been doing wrong when I make skirts. Ummm, yeah. It only took me doing 4 wrong to see what I needed to be doing instead. Good thing. I got some great fabric for Thanksgiving skirts and am excited to finally make them look the way I envision.
Soon I am going to try another new sewing project. I am going to make a couple dresses that will be taken to Kenya for pregnant girls at the Mercy House. Please take a few moments to read more about this amazing ministry that is in the beginning stages. I don’t feel even remotely capable of doing this project. I do not personally know the women/family starting this, but it resonates with me. So much so I have volunteered to help with a few projects. This family has undertaken a God size mission. Please join me in praying for them as they raise funds, gather supplies, undertake many lifechanging activities. I will be making a nursing cover for them to sell in the Etsy shop to support this home. There are already tons of cute things listed in their shop.
That’s what I am doing to Try Something New lately. What are you doing? I would love to hear about it!

A Deal to Share
I follow a couple deal websites, my current favorite being Crazy Coupon Mommy. She sends out great stuff! She has found deals for just about everything. Pampers gift to grow codes (thank you mommy, I got a bunch off your master list this weekend), on-line deal websites, like Groupon where I also got some great deals this weekend thanks to Crazy Coupon Mommy and info on how to match up coupons with current deals at stores to get even more savings, like matching up a diaper coupon with the store who has them on the best sale. She really is amazing, I don’t know where she finds them all. And today I have found one to share with you…drumroll please…
Snapfish is offering 365 free prints if you purchase $10 in products by November 20, 11:59 Pacific Standard Time. The catch is, you have to order all 365 prints (4×6 size) when you make your $10 purchase. To get the deal use coupon code 2010MY365 at checkout. If you don’t need that many you can choose 100 prints (code 2010MY100) or 50 prints (2010MY50).
This is an awesome deal for scrapbookers. I’m scheming for some things I can do with that number of prints…hmmmm…I’ve got the girls ABC books to fill, maybe this year we could do our Christmas card as a 4×6. So many things to think about between now and November 20th!
What can you do with a deal like this? What pictures do you have tucked away in the digital world that need to come forth to have and to hold? Let me know if you can use this deal and how it worked out for you. Did you have all 365, 100, or 50?
I think this one needs to be printed |
And most likely this one too! |
Fun Found in the Adventure
We are confronted with unexpected situations and decisions at every stage in life. And often, one circumstance we see as bad, leads to outcomes that are very good.
As you know from other posts, we had several weeks of uncertainty during my pregnancy with Patrice due to her deciding to sit in a breech position…over and over and over. There are many ways to help a baby turn, one being chiropractic treatments. This option was just one of the many things we tried to help our little one get where she belonged for delivery. And it worked. And along the way, the treatments to help Patrice, took care of a nagging health issue I have had for 30 or more years.
And my poor Sue has had the same nagging issue. So a few weeks ago hubby and I decided to take her to the chiropractor to see what could be done for her. It took about 2 weeks, but she is doing much better!!!! Did I ever expect chiropractic to figure into my family’s health care? No, but I am so glad it has. I am glad to be feeling better and even moreso, I am glad to see Sue feeling better.
So that is one of our recent adventures.
The chiropractor we have chosen to trust as a family is a bit of a distance away. Yes, we drive past numerous chiropractors to get to this particular one, but that is okay with me. Just past the chiropractors office is one of the areas’ county parks. Hubby and I had never been there, but he had heard it was really nice, so on a whim last week, we picked up some pizza and headed out to the park. And I must say, it was a wonderful decision.
Getting ready for a trip down one of the many slides! |
We are in love. We have been back once already and plan to go back tomorrow. Caitlyn had so much fun there, she asks me on a daily basis if Sue needs to go to the ‘practor. She is going to be so bummed to find out tomorrow is the last time Sue needs to go for a while!
Maybe Patrice isn’t ready for the slide |
Catch us daddy!!!! |
Sue is Captian of this ship! |
As a random thought in this adventure…when we were there the first time, the bathrooms were locked. And of course Caitlyn had to go potty. I tried to teach her how to go in the woods…I failed. And Sue decided she had to go potty, but was not willing to try in the woods, so we had to make a quick drive to a nearby store to use their potty…which she decided was too dirty to use and refused to go until I cleaned it up a bit. No one mentioned that kind of stuff in the childrearing books I read!
But back to the park…
In addition to going back to play, we will be checking out some of their community programs this fall and plan to spend lots of time here and at other area parks next summer. Want to know more about where we had fun? Click here to investigate it for yourself!
Birthdays…
So what do you think of your birthday? Do you still get really excited, do you dread them or just think of them as another day? I must say I love the attention of phone calls and now, since joining facebook, I really love all the greetings. I love hearing from people from so many parts of my life.
And the girls get so excited. They love the balloons, the streamers, the candles on the cake and singing happy birthday, with a rousing, cha, cha, cha at the end.
Sue was just sure my birthday was on Wednesday. Apparently they did the shopping for my birthday after daycare that day. So I came home, and she met me with “it’s your birthday!” So I explained, no tomorrow is mama’s birthday. She looked at me, “it’s your birthday!” We had this conversation about 6 times before I gave up…in her world, it was my birthday.
So Thursday my birthday actually came. I got her up from her crib and I said, “today is mama’s birthday.” She looked at me very confused and said, “It’s birthday today too?” Something like that.
She greeted me very happily. Caitlyn, on the other hand, was not so happy. She wanted to wear the same shirt she had worn the day before. I told her no. She got mad. She plopped down on the floor and started to cry, scream and kick her feet. I told her she could wear the shirt (I know, bad parenting…) but she needed to stop throwing a fit. She looked at me and said, “I didn’t throw anything.” Ahhh, the things we explain to kids.
After work, I came home to decorations, cake (a huge cake) and wonderful presents.
Thanks girlies and daddy for a great Birthday. I am not thrilled with my age, and yesterday I was pregnant (still pregnant today, in case you were wondering) and moody, so I had a bad attitude part of the day, but you guys made it special, in a way only you can. You mean the world to me and I love you!!!
My blog is not big enough yet for a giveaway in honor of my birthday, but another lady does have a giveaway today. Check out the Polka Dot Chair for her birthday giveaway.

Very compassionate Link
So, I don’t normally do more than one post and those I do normally, have a little bit more in them…but this one is worth it…
MckMama recently went to Compassion International to Kenya. She is using her blog to raise awareness for children and mothers in need.
Today she is doing an amazing giveaway. If you donate any amount, in $5 increments, you will be entered into a drawing for a new Apple Ipad.
